last race held on an airport; Santa Barbara in 1969. You’ll meet the founders
of the California Sports Car Club, Los Angeles Region SCCA, the Road Racing
Register and a few more. Details about the first actual wheel to wheel race at
the blimp base in Orange County through Palm Springs, Torrey Pines, Willow
Springs and little known events like the Sandberg and Agoura hillclimbs and
racing in Bakersfield, Santa Maria, San Luis Obispo and at Hansen Dam, Dodger
Stadium, San Diego Stadium, March Field and the Glendale Air Terminals; places
not often mentioned. Drivers from Phil Hill, Jack McAfee, Richie Ginther,
Carroll Shelby and Dan Gurney and even sports cars on the ovals at Ascot,
Carrell Speedway, Bonelli and Gardena Stadium and drag racing in El Segundo.
